Headed down on the train to Bournemouth University to give a talk to the BA(Hons) Photography students. The lecture theatre was filled to over capacity which was nice to see. The talk focused on some of my recent projects and commissioned work. Most of the debate concerned the issues around documentary photography as a practice and how to get started in the commercial world. The course at Bournemouth has an excellent reputation going back decades and has produced some of the great contemporary names in fashion and art based photography such as Nick Knight and Wolfgang Tillman. We finished with a big portfolio review of around 30 books before I had to dash off to catch my train. I can honestly say none of the work was poor as the standard was high with some excellent new work come out.
